I used to live in Florida.
- It was just brutal.
I thought I would love the heat and enjoy no snow. Turns out, I would rather be too hot than too cold anyday. The Florida heat and humidity was just horrible. I was sweaty and sticky all year long. I kept waiting for the weather to cool down. I couldn’t work outside in my gardens, go for a run or even enjoy my home swimming pool. The heat made it impossible to just breathe. Moving to Spokane Washington was one of the best decisions I ever made. For one, the summers are so mild. August is basically the only month that you need an air conditioner. It is nice since I only bother with a window air conditioner in my bedroom and a portable AC device in my kitchen. It is cheap and effective for cooling in my area. The winters are obviously much colder in Washington. I don’t mind them at all. I can go outside and breathe normally. I just need to bundle up a bit and keep moving. I am able to rake my leaves, weed my gardens and run in the cold air much easier. I really like that I can rely on my home heating system too. In Florida I just ran the AC all year except for the dead of winter. My heater hardly got used. Now in Washington, four to five months of the year my heating equipment actually gets to work. It is enjoyable working outside in the cold and then coming into the toasty warm house and sitting by my fireplace.
