I was on my way home from work on Thursday and a bird came out of nowhere and flew into my windshield.
- I work in Oakland, but I live south of San Francisco.
I have to take the 880 around the city in order to save some time in traffic. I was in a lot of traffic when the bird hit my windshield. I was caught off-guard and everything happened suddenly. When the bird hit my windshield, I slammed on the brakes and the car behind me hit my bumper and tail light. The lady called the insurance company and the police. It was her fault that she hit my car. She was obviously traveling wait till close on the highway. When the San Francisco County police officer arrived, the first thing the guy did was look at me. He saw a young person in a beat-up car and he automatically assumed that the fault was with me. I told the San Francisco County officer that a bird ran into my windshield and the guy laughed. He asked me for my license and my registration. The forms were inside of the glove compartment with a bag of marijuana. The officer saw the marijuana and decided that I was under the influence. Even though marijuana is legal in San Francisco, and the state of California, the officer was trying to give me a hard time. He even threatened me with jail time if I didn’t tell the truth about the accident. I was in quite a pickle until another person stepped up as a witness and claimed to see the large bird swooping down on my car.
