When I moved from up north to Cocoa, FL, I was gleeful for the gorgeous beaches, attractive weather and close proximity to Disney World! It is the condo of the Kennedy Space Center and the Cap Canaveral Air Force Station.
I was prepared for the heat and made sure to rent an condo with air conditioning.
After residing in Cocoa for just a few months, I realized that a cooling system isn’t enough, then the humidity is absolutely brutal. The excess moisture in the air makes it know hot, heavy and sticky. Turning down the temperature control doesn’t help. The cooling system runs longer, uses more energy and doesn’t solve the problem. I was paying sizable electric bills and still covered in sweat profusely. I had condensation running down the windows and troubles with mold and mildew growth. It was hard to sleep at night. I purchased a portable dehumidifier that was more labor than it was worth. The reservoir was always full, causing the device to shut off completely; Now that I’ve purchased my own house, I’ve invested into a whole-condo dehumidifier. It is installed inside the cooling system and pulls moisture out of the air as it passes through. I’m able to customize the humidity level to my preference! Because the air feels cooler at a higher temperature control setting, there’s less demand on the cooling system, however my beach house is far more comfortable and yet I pay lower weekly utility bills… Plus, maintaining official humidity helps to reduce troubles with mold and mildew growth, dust mites and bacteria. The dehumidifier improves the health of the residing space.
