Over the last few years, we have seen some record snowfall as well as ice storms in Buffalo.
This means the weather was brutal during these storms.

Therefore, it’s safe to say that we know how to handle the cold weather in Buffalo. There are certain measures that we take both in our homes as well as with our cars. For our cars, many residents carry a Winter survival kit. It includes necessities like a flashlight, blanket, medication, and more. For the home, we take steps to winterize our home. At the top of the list is to make sure that the furnace is operating at its highest efficiency. Prior to the start of Winter, it is important to get the furnace inspected by a licensed HVAC technician. The furnace inspection will identify any issues which can be fixed prior to the brutal weather. In addition, replacing the air filter inside the furnace can make a huge difference in the efficiency of the unit. So, it’s best to change the filter prior to the Winter months. In many ways, we are tempted to overuse our furnaces to try to stay warm in the Winter, but best practice is to set the thermostat at the recommended temperature. If a thermostat is set too low, the furnace might work overtime to try to keep up with the desired setting. This could lead to unforeseen malfunctions. All in all, it’s important to be prepared for the Winter by doing what we can to stay comfy inside our homes and safe inside our cars.
