My husband and I had talked about visiting Albuquerque for quite a few years.
Neither one of us had ever been to New Mexico.
We considered different times of year to take our vacation and finally chose October because of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Lasting nine days, this very unique festival includes balloon rodeos, twilight balloon glows and over five hundred hot air balloons. It’s the most popular event in the city and brings in approximately 850,000 people. While we knew this would mean lots of crowds and more expensive hotel rates, we felt it was worth it. We were not disappointed. From the moment we stepped out of our hotel room, we saw balloons everywhere. They filled the skies and landed in every available parking lot and field. The balloons are so colorful and beautiful. There are all different sizes and shapes. While we were in town, we visited all of the recommended local attractions, such as San Felipe de Neri Church, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and the various museums and shops dedicated to Native American culture and handicrafts. We also took the opportunity to stop by several of the local recreational cannabis dispensaries. Coming from a state where adult-use cannabis is not yet legal, this was quite a novelty for us. We were amazed by the number of consumption methods and products available. My husband discovered that the cannabis-infused topicals effectively relieved his joint pain. I finally got a good night’s sleep because of an indica vape. We both really enjoyed the variety of gummies and chocolates.
